Eckerd College
The Phoenix Foundation continues its focus on Marine Science and education through its relationship with Eckerd College. The Waterfront facilities, located on Frenchman's Creek, include the Wallace Boathouse, an Activities Center, docks and a boat ramp. Also available are a fleet of sailboats, canoes, sea kayaks, sailboards, and multiple powerboats. The Phoenix Foundation has donated a state of the art phone and communication system to the marina to enhance their level of expertise and emergency response to the community through their Search and Rescue Program.
The Foundation is also proud to have sponsored the 10th Annual Eckerd College Environmental Film Festival. http://www.eckerd.edu/film/index.php?f=home
The Phoenix Foundation is facilitating a partnership between Eckerd College and The Canterbury School of Florida Marine Studies Program. The partnership is providing lead Canterbury science students with the opportunity to take classes on the Eckerd campus for college credit and participate in Eckerd’s Research Programs. In turn Canterbury is providing Eckerd College students with opportunities to complete their student teaching requirements and internships in this unique environment.
The Eckerd Marina is the home for Sea Scout Ship 912 and the berth for their boat, s.s.v. Knot kNORMal. The Eckerd College Search and Rescue team provides special training days to Ship 912, both in the classroom and on the water.
